As Canadians prepare to head to the polls this year, the Direct Sellers Association of Canada (DSA Canada) has released a comprehensive list of policy recommendations aimed at empowering and protecting the more than 1.1 million Canadians involved in direct selling. These priorities reflect the association’s commitment to supporting flexible entrepreneurship, especially for women, newcomers, retirees, and individuals in underserved communities.
The 2025 Federal Election Priorities outline six key recommendations that DSA Canada urges all political parties and candidates to consider:
- Recognize and support independent work
- Promote fair and modern consumer protection frameworks
- Minimize the impact of tariffs and trade barriers
- Reduce product regulatory barriers and bureaucracy
- Champion women’s economic empowerment
- Engage with the direct selling industry
“These recommendations highlight the importance of creating a fair and modern environment for independent entrepreneurs,” said Peter Maddox, President of DSA Canada. “Direct selling offers Canadians a unique opportunity to build flexible, sustainable businesses. We call on all federal candidates to recognize the impact our sector has on both the economy and the lives of everyday Canadians.”
Marcia Cota, Chair of the DSA Canada Board and Senior Vice President, North America at MONAT Global, emphasized the importance of inclusive policy development, saying, “The direct selling community is diverse, entrepreneurial, and resilient. By supporting the priorities we’ve laid out, government leaders can help ensure that Canadians continue to have access to meaningful, low-barrier income opportunities, especially women, who make up over 80% of our independent sales consultants.”
