U.S. Direct Selling Association (DSA) released the results of “Direct Selling Growth and Outlook Survey” for 2020. The results show $40.1 billion retail sales in 2020, 13.9% increase from the previous year.
37% of this volume was generated by the wellness category, followed by services (23%) and home care/durables (18%). Personal care products accounted for 13% of sales.
“America is forever changing, no more so than during the last year. Direct sellers have proven themselves time and again to be nimble microentrepreneurs, willing and able to serve their customers and communities within a changing environment,” commented Joseph N. Mariano, Direct Selling Association, president.
2020 Growth & Outlook Study provided the following significant data:
- Direct Selling Retail Sales are Up: The direct sales channel generated $40.1 billion in sales in 2020, up 13.9%.
- The Number of Direct Sellers is Up: The number of direct sellers grew 13.2% with 7.7 million U.S. individuals involved on a part-time or full-time basis.
- Demand for Direct Selling Products Continued to Grow: In 2020, there were 41.6 million preferred customers and discount buyers purchasing through the direct sales channel.
