During the last year in Metapa, Nicaragua, important steps were taken to support children’s growth, strengthen families, and improve living conditions across several rural communities.
Thanks to the partnership between PM‑International and World Vision Germany e.V., and the ongoing commitment of PM‑International’s dedicated Team Partners (Distributors), the program continued to advance education, child protection, health, and community resilience.
Supporting Education and Strengthening Families
Education saw noticeable progress throughout the year. Many families were able to keep their children in school because 183 children received essential learning materials that helped them begin the academic year prepared and confident. Across the area, 318 girls and 295 boys participated in 26 reading clubs, discovering stories, practicing literacy, and forming supportive peer relationships. Parents were also engaged, as 174 mothers and 7 fathers received tools to support learning at home.
Safer Communities for Children
Child protection remained a central focus. In ten communities, 179 caregivers learned how to recognise and report situations that violate children’s rights. This led to three cases of child abuse being formally reported and addressed by local authorities. Meanwhile, 60 girls and boys gained important knowledge about identifying risks and seeking help when needed.
Health Improvements Through Water and Sanitation
Access to clean water and sanitation continued to expand. In El Carbonal, 226 residents now benefit from a rehabilitated solar‑powered water system. In four additional communities, 36 new latrines improved hygiene and safety for 125 people, particularly women and girls. At a primary school in Maúnica, 70 children now have reliable access to drinking water throughout the day thanks to improved infrastructure and teacher training.
Building Resilience and Strengthening Local Livelihoods
Families depending on agriculture received support to strengthen their long‑term resilience. Twenty producers, including 12 women, learned sustainable farming practices such as soil conservation, seed banking, and organic fertiliser preparation. These efforts benefited 4,558 people by improving food security and agricultural stability.
As these developments unfolded, Vicki Sorg, Charity Ambassador at PM‑International, reflected on the progress currently taking place in Metapa: “The progress in Metapa this year is remarkable. Children are learning with confidence in reading clubs, families are benefiting from safe water systems, and communities are taking real steps to protect their children. These are the moments that remind us why our partnership with World Vision Germany matters. I am deeply grateful to our Team Partners who stand behind this important work.”
